Banke Bihari Temple

Located near the Shri Vallabha Temple, the Banke Bihari Temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna. Standing in the “tribhanga” posture, Lord Krishna is worshipped in the Kunj Bihari image.

The temple was constructed by Swami Haridas who was the teacher of the famous Tansen. Built in the traditional Rajasthani style, Banke Bihari Temple is one of the famous temples in Vrindavan.

The temple is very different from other similar temples. Every morning Lord Krishna is woken up silently and slowly as it is thought that it is not right to wake up a baby with a startle.

No bells are used in the temple. Jhulan Yatra, Holi, Janmashthami and Rashleela are some of the most important festivals held in this temple.

ISCKON Vrindavan Temple

Based on the Gaudiya Vaishnava belief, the ISCKON Vrindavan Temple is one of the most important ISCKON temples internationally and is commonly called Sri-Krishna Balaram Temple.

The ISCKON Temple is considered to be the cleanest in Vrindavan. At the entrance of the temple, an idol of Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada is present, carved out of white marble.

The temple contains three altars, each containing a different deity. The first altar has an idol of Lord Krishna and his brother, Balarama. The second altar has Lord Krishna along with Radha and two gopis. The third altar worships Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

The Prem Mandir is one of the most famous temples in Vrindavan and is maintained by Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat, a non-profit organization. The temple spans an area of 55 acres and has two levels or storeys.

The first storey has the idols of Lord Krishna and Radha. The second level is dedicated to Lord Rama and Sita. Built-in 2001, it is considered to be one of the richest in the country.

It took 1000 arts men and more than 12 years to complete the building. The temple is completely built from Italian marbles and is a gem for Indian architecture.

Radha Raman Temple

Constructed in the early 1542 AD, the Radha Raman Temple is one of the most important temples for the followers of Gaudiya Vaishnavism. It was built by Gopal Bhatta Goswami and is an excellent piece of architecture.

According to legends, after Chaitanya Mahaprabhu disappeared, his disciple Gopal Bhatta Goswami felt his loss and dreamt of visiting Nepal.

When he visited Nepal, and he was taking a bath in the Kali-Gandaki River, he received many Shaligram shilas which later turned into the idol of Krishna and is placed in the temple.

Sri Ranganatha Temple

Popularly known as “Land of the God”, Shri Ranganatha Temple is the largest in the area and unlike most of the similar temples is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Along with it, idols of Lord Rama, Hanumana, Sita, Lakshmana is present within the premises.

Build-in the Dravidian style, the Shri Ranganatha Temple was established in 1851. The unique form in the style of the idol and the absolutely stunning piece of architecture makes the temple worth visiting.

Katyayani Peeth

Also commonly known as Uma Shakti Peeth, the Katyayani Peeth is a famous temple in the town that worships Goddess Shakti. It is one of the 51 Shakti Peeths of the country where after Goddess Sati’s body part fell, a temple was built on it.

Located amidst the sacred groves, the Katyayani Temple is a must-visit. With a serene and calm environment, you can relax and boost positivity.

Sri Govind Devji Temple

This temple is dedicated to little Lord Krishna in Vrindavan. It is completely made up of red sandstones and is a beautiful piece of architecture. The temple was built about 500 years ago.

Considered to be one of the famous temples for the Hindu culture, it attracts numerous pilgrims every day. With architecture similar to that of a European Cathedral, the temple is seven storeyed with altars made up of marble, gold and silver.

It took five years to build this temple and is considered to be the perfect blend of Hindu and Muslim styles of architecture.

Gokulananda Mandir

Situated just near the Radha Ramana Temple, the Gukulnanda is another famous temple in Vrindavan dedicated to Lord Krishna. The temple was built by Loknath Goswami hundreds of years ago. It houses the idols of Radha Vinoda, Radha Gokulananda and Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

The temple also has a shaligram shila that was given by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to Loknath Goswami and contains the impressions of his finger. The temple was built in the traditional Hindu style and is considered to be one of the marvels in Vrindavan.

Shahji Temple


The temple is one of the popular ones and was build-in 1876. It was established by Shah Kundan Lal and is flocked by devotees every day. The temple houses a deity of young Radha Raman and is a marvellous piece of architecture.

The temple is built from authentic marble and has 12 spiral columns that rise up to 15 feet. There is a special chamber called the Basanti Kamra that contains famous intrinsic paintings and authentic Belgium glass chandeliers.

Though the temple is considered to be a sacred place for Hindus, many tourists visit the temple to enjoy the spectacular architecture.

Gopeshwar Mahadev Temple

Located near the Yamuna River, the Gopeshwar Shiva Temple is one of the ancient temples in Vrindavan. The temple, as the name suggests, is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It houses a Shivalinga that is thought to have been established by the great-grandson of Lord Krishna himself.

According to certain folktales, Lord Shiva was the first Vaishnava, and thus anyone who wants to go under his wings must ask Lord Shiva for permission by praying in this temple.

Radha Vallabh Mandir

The temple is one of the prime attractions near Vrindavan and is located near the Bankey Bihari Temple. This temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna, and Krishna is worshipped with Radha in the beautiful Rasleela stage.

What makes the temple different from other temples is the fact that no idol of Radharani is present in the temple. In her place, a crown is kept to show her presence.

This temple was built-in 1585 from red sand-stones. The Radha Vallabh Mandir holds a position of immense importance for its devotees as well as historically.
